Sporran or belt or both? Shirt issues too!

    Hi everyone,

I have two weddings in the next few weeks and I have had my kilt for a few years but since looking at this forum I have a few questions...

    1. Should you wear a belt and sporran, or just a sporran? When I bought my kilt I only got a sporran, so dont know if I should go and buy a belt...

    2. I have the Prince Charlie jacket with a dress shirt and bow-tie, but how baggy should the shirt be? It feels fine at the neck, but seems very baggy...is this normal?

Thanks in advance....this is also my first post...glad to be here.

    Morph,

If you plan on wearing the Prince Charlie jacket, which I assume came with a vest, then there is no need to wear a kilt belt.

However, for occasions when you are not wearing a vest, a nice kilt belt would help complete the outfit.

About the fit of the shirt, it's hard to tell without pictures, but if it feels baggy to you it's probably too large. Dress shirts should not look baggy.

Im guessing vest and waistcoat are the same thing?
    So, yes, I have a waistcoat/vest.

Think I will go and get a new shirt for the occasion(s).

    Thanks.

I,m guessing you're British, yes vest and waistcoat are the same thing.

Welcome to xmarks from a fellow Brit.

One other point, if you dance at the weddings, slide your sporran round to your hip for the duration of the dance, so it doesn't get in the way and you don't snag the ladies dress.

    Morph,
First let me extend a warm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I would have to agree that if you are wearing a waistcoat with the PC then the belt is not needed in fact if you do wear a belt with the waistcoat, it can cause the waistcoat to jut out at the bottom. However it does look nice if you are not wearing the waistcoat.

Also you are right getting well fitting shirt should fix the problem of bunching up.

from Edinburgh. I can't add much just a sporan is the essential thing you need, get a belt later and you don't wear a belt with a waistcoat and don't need it to keep your kilt from falling down.

Its really nice to get so many replies.
    Thank you.

I definitely need a new shirt! I'm in debate about the belt...it could be good to have one on because it can get a bit warm at these weddings so I could take my jacket and waistcoat (sorry, vest ) off and jump about with my belt and sporran (which will be at the side!!)
