Sporran Deals?

Anybody ever have any luck with buying sporrans from eBay or should I really steer clear of some of those 'deals'?

I have purchased sporrans on Ebay with rusty chains or that broke after I wore them. Stillwater has the best quality cheap sporrans.

Though their site seems to be down for maintenance at the moment, you might want to try buzzkidder.com. They have nice looking leather sporrans at a good price that several on the forum own and have commented favorably upon.

i got a really nice sealskin dress sporran off ebay for next to nothing some folk also sell ones that perhaps have came into a charity shops or found in deceased relatives old belongings for example
i also purchased a brown suede day sporran in a clearance sale from a ebayer once, the images are in my profile if you care to have a look at them

i refuse to pay anything over £20 pound for some items as much as id love to buy the best gear i can sometimes my bank balance just doesn't allow it
to be honest the only thing i haven't bought off ebay is my kilt everything in the "my gear" folder is all thanks to ebay

For a great value, usefull sporran, the Buzz Kidders are hard to beat.

Very true. They're no Ferguson Britts, but they're solidly constructed from good materials and will last and look good for as long as you need them.

I have bought 3 horse-hair sporrans; day sporrans; semi-dress and dress sporrans - over 20 in total. All from eBay and all at a bargain. That is to say, value for money. I have never been disappointed.

I have bought sporrans from vendors, who do not sell on eBay and have been disappointed.

I do not think that just because something is on sale on eBay, it becomes a bad deal.

I bought an ebay sporran early on because it was cheaper than a nice one. I ended up buying the nice one, and never wear the ebay sporran.

You can get real nice ones, and read bad ones. It all comes down to the work you put into it. I have a sporran I bought at £9, and it's one of those I like the best. I also have a real sealskin sporran with a £160 price tag on it, but I don't really use it that often.

My best advice is to read trough several sporrans, find what's missing, ask about anything you can think of. I really like ebay since the seller depends on delivering a good product in order to keep selling. Therefore they reply quick, and in most cases they are telling you the fact. If they lie; their ebay-life is soon over.

Just watch and use your senses like if you were in a store. How much do they tell about it? How good are the photos. If not enough info or not good enough photos then pass. If good then follow it and if it stays in your price range put in a bid in the last couple minutes of the most you will allow yourself within your budget. I got this one before I had my first kilt:



It is absolutely stunning and I think I stole it for $120 or so. Keep your eyes out and don't be afraid to get up early or go to bed late or to bid on Christmas morning for it. Good luck!
