I'd suggest that for dress wear, a regular sporran with nothing in it-for apparance, the jeacket pockets will hold the bits and pieces.

Otherwise go for a side sporran-all the convenience and non of the risk.

A soft leather sporran in the front position is no solution--try running for a bus with loose change and keys, and you'll know why.

An interesting aside, photographs from when the kilt was day to day military wear, very often show that the sporran is not being worn-when the troops are engaged in their day to day activities.

Too whilst the kilt can be ideal for stalking, try it with the sporran in the conventional position.

Thanks to all of you for the most helpful ( and speedy) advice.
The sporran is indeed a 'hard' leather one with chain and 1/2 belt. It also has 'danglies' that drum as I walk. The blutak tip is a good on for those. The usual position I wear it is higher up, clear of my legs, but thats where it bounces along on my well padded tummy.

So it seems for the moment the best I can do is the wearit on the side, and meanwhile look out for a nice soft one.


One solution I have adopted with my casual kilt in summer (no jacket) is a small belt purse for cash and cards and keys clipped to the kilt buckle. Works quite well but still no-where for cell phone, hanky etc. I do have a men's small handbag(shoulder bag) that I bought in France. but somehow is doesn't seem right with a kilt.

I am a great believer in the "man-bag" when it's appropriate, Barry. I admit that it doesn't look too good with the tartan kilt, but I always carry one on my shoulder when travelling (which I generally do in a plain kilt for reasons of comfort and 'pleat-preservation'). The man-bag is perfect for holding airline tickets, passport, domestic and foreign currency, paper-back book, pens, maps, etc., etc., and it saves emptying out one's pockets at Security.

Years ago, some of these shoulder bags were somewhat suspect, but now the majority are really butch-looking.

Now you know why contemporary kilts were invented.
Side pockets, cargo pockets, rear pockets.
You can wear a sporran if you wish, or not.
I use a camera bag with many compartments when it's windy. Otherwise I don't really need a sporran. I fasten it with clips on the front beltloops.

An older thread mentioned tacking down the offending tassels with poster sticky putty.

i am not sure whether we helped you with your problem/situtation, and I have a solution for you. Have you tried to place the sporrano right in front of your family jewels? It may be a good place for it.
