    Static cling?

Hey folks. So here's the problem. I have three kilts- two wool, one denim and a new SWK acrylic. I have never worn anything acrylic to my knowledge, so I really don't know much about them. I had to wash my new SWK last night, and when I put it on today, the static was incredible! It was sticking to my thighs! Any suggestions on how to get rid of the static?

Also... is that profuse amount of static normal for this kind of kilt?

You could try rubbing a dryer sheet on it or get a can of that Static guard. Might I suggest that in future that you not clean your kilts by rubbing vigorously with a cat. For one thing it ticks the cat off .

Don't use cats at all...dogs work much better. But only mutts...purebreds cause shrinkage.

A spray pak of Stat Gard or similar works wonders. Or rub with a wet toad during the waxing of the moon while turning widdershins....Oh, Sorry, that's for something else. Silly me!

Static Electricity is just what its name says, an electric charge that is just clinging to a surface because it has no where else to go.

    Simply ground it.

    Here's how.

Find a copper pipe in your house,(There are a couple under your kitchen sink.) and wrap a length of copper wire around it.
Then find the nearest Electrical outlet. (The one behind your stove with the big funny looking plug is a good one.)
Dump a couple of cups of water on the floor and stand in it as you hold the copper wire in your teeth.
Then with your kilt around yourself reach over and stick a knife into the plug.
Voila!!! Your kilt will no longer cling to your legs.

Disclamer ...... DO NOT REALLY DO THIS!!!!! It's a joke.

The real way is to hold on to something without a charge like the proverbial door knob. Then run your other hand down the pleats of your kilt. Just like wiping the lint off. Then put that hand on the doorknob also. If this doesn't work right away try wiping your pleats with a very slightly damp cloth and then touch the cloth to the doorknob. This will ground the charge and let it dissipate.

If you are out somewhere and don't have the above items, dryer sheet, or a anti static spray, just splash some water from a sink faucet, wetting your hands, and splashing it on your legs or even the inside of the kilt. Dry weather causes static, so wetting it should diminish it.

I have 4 cats. I no choice in the cats being vogorously rubbed on my clothes. So barring getting rid of the cats, I think I'll try the doorknob idea. Thanks to people who were helpful, and kudos to the people who made me laugh. My cats would love you.

In the future, don't machine dry your kilt either. If you hang it to dry it won't develop nearly as much static.
