Stillwater questions
I still want to find an affordable kilt to wear in the summer, been offered an attractivly priced SWK. Two questions.
Why all the love for the SWK, it is essentially the same off shore product that the same people here swear against?
And, as its still a 24 inch length, how easy are they to shorten? Can any alterations shop do it?

Dave,
How tall are you? If you are 6' the SWK will fit you fine.

Yes they are made offshore, but that doesn't mean they are inferior in any way. SW kilts are surprisingly well made for the price.
As for the 24" length...I'm 5'9 and the length is perfect for me.

I'm 5'7" and 24 inch length is fine if I wear it at military height, above the navel at the bottom of the ribs.

I also agree that the SWK's are well made and a good value for the price. But Al and Mr. B., it can't fit us all well in length, and I am 6' 3"! Based on the kneeling measurement, I would expect it to fit me in length pretty well, be a little long on MB and well below the knee on Al, no?

It depends on your body. I'm 6'2" with a 33' inseam, and mine comes to just above the knee,

What about those of us with guts who wear it under the belly?

Jeremiah,
Traditional style kilts should always be worn 2 to 4 inches above the natural waist. On most men your natural waist will be slightly above your naval.
This means the top of the kilt should be just below the ribcage.
If you are used to wearing kilts below your belly, you need to go to one of the Contemporary style kilts. Preferable one that has a significant slope to the waistband. Some makers will do the slope but charge extra. It is often called something like "Beer Gut Cut" or some such.
Without the slope, you will always have puckers in the front of the apron. It will also cause the aprons to hang open at the sides.
Look at your jeans and you will see they are sloped.

I'm 6' even with a 32" inseam, and it fits me fine. I actually wear it a bit lower, so the top comes just under my navel. Hits me right about mid knee.
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.
