    Stitching

    Hey Yall,

I have been thinking for a while about shortening my SW kilt. It hangs two and a quarter inches past my knees when I wear my kilt in the proper spot.

Hemming the kilt up will NOT work, what I think I HAVE to do is to cut the kilt then stitch the edge to keep it from fraying. Does anyone know of a proper stitch to carry out such an operation?

Stillwater kilts are light enough that they can be hemmed. The toughest part is pessing the hem to make the pleats sharp. Talk to a seamstress about it if you're not certain.

Not sure why your kilt can't be hemmed. I've put hems in 16 oz kilts, and, done right, it doesn't show. What's the issue with your SW kilt??

seamstress at cleaners and lucky you!

Wow. I'm jealous... My Stills all come to the very top of my knees and that's when I wear them at my jeans waist instead of high as intended!

As for surging the edge, I had the seamstress at my cleaners do it to keep it from fraying. It's completely invisible unless you pull out a magnifying glass and only cost me $6.00 !!
