    Stockings

Several members have stated that while traveling they roll up their kilts, place them in a stocking then pack them. The way I look at it, any stocking will work as long as it holds the roll tight.I was wondering -Do certain sizes/brands work better than others?

Perhaps we could call this Hidden Knowledge for Advanced Kilters.

And here I thought you had found a new source for kilt hose, but that were sold as stockings to historical re-enactors.

One source for hose/stockings (for the legs) in Abbeville, SC (USA)

Thay have thick wool and thinner cotton. They are long enough (I use them in the summer in South Carolina heat/humidity). I have gray wool, black, navy, olive, off white, and a few others in cotton (machine washable).

The prices are right too (I forget how much-> so call).

Right now, their website is "under construction" and the Earps are not there much, usually off at reenactments.

As for the aim of this thread . . . got me.

aye- the best way tae travel a kilt is tae roll it- keepin the pleats neat...

then puttin it in a ladies stockin' (oir 1 leg o' a pantyhose...)

ya roll the stockin' o'er the kilt like a lady rolls a stockin' oan her leg....

Thanks for the tip. I'll get some cheap ones to experiment with.

Wait- this is for a KILT, the greatest creation ever. They deserve the best, only silk will do!

What about 'leg warmers' as kilt holders?

Maybe there are a few pairs of those sculling around in the back of drawers.

I am just making some knitted tubes for my visit to Sidmouth Folk week - pure merino wool, hand knitted in rib, in the round, so I can pack the kilts unobtrusively in the back of the car and hopefully find them uncreased at the end of the week.
