    Tartan Scarf Vendors?

My wife is a fan of scarfs so I thought for this Christmas I'd get her one in Ferguson Ancient tartan. My only question is where to buy/find one? I don't have much experience with tartan online vendors so I figured I'd ask this group.

I have found one at scotsconnection.com however I don't know the sites reputation.

I'd like to find one in cashmere however any light wool would also work.

    Thanks for any suggestion guys.

    Hi Mark

Have a look at Scotweb one of the advertisers on this forum. Nick Fiddes the owner and director is a regular contributor on this forum.
They have scarves in wool and cashmere, might be worth giving them a call to see what they have in stock.
I can also vouch for the their service and quality of product.
    Kind regards- Simon

Sadly, you'll probably be working through a jobber/middleman - so be very careful. When you pick a potential vendor check the search feature here for their history...good luck.

    Thanks for the link, David!

To Mark, we'd be glad to help you. Just order on line or give us a call. We are just over the mountains in western NC, so not far from you all things considered.

Matt, I see that you have a Spring Weight Tartan Scarf and a Reiver Tartan Scarf. Considering the $20 difference, is the weight all that different between the two?

    Thanks for the help.

If the others are not able to give you what you're looking for, give Burnetts and Struth a shot. They do have scarves and they are a good company. They may have what you're looking for and, if you don't find it on their web site, try Brandon (their internet sales guy) who has a profile here.

The spring weight scarves are very light weight and definitely more of a fashion accessory than something to keep your neck warm in the cold. They are also woven as a plain weave.

The Reiver scarves are by Lochcarron and while still a light weight wool, they are a bit heavier (the same weight as our lady's skirts) and are woven in a twill weave.

If you think she'd appreciate a bit more body to the scarf, then I'd go with the Reiver. If she'd rather have something she can wear year round, then the spring weight would work.

Thanks. Purchase made. I checked some other sites as well but none had the ancient tartan, only the modern.

    Re: Tartan Scarf Vendors?

I have a tartan scarf and matching flat cap (sorry Jock) in my forrester modern tartan that I wear with a great coat in the winter. They were made by Scotweb from standard Strathmore 13 oz tartan, same as my kilt of the same tartan. Work fine, although not as warm as a fluffier cashmere might be, but then they also look slightly classier stylewise.
