    Textures and what not...

Recently, M.Newsome posted a picture with a happy looking rabble.
    Seen here http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/i...966/index.html

I found some stuff at The Value Village and I want to know what you think about it.
    Here it is...

The top is made of felt, and the socks are, well... handmade for sure... but for .99$, I just had to try... Also, the shirt I have on is an old jacobite shirt I'va had for a long time and I don't wear it at all, but I dont have a white shirt. I think the top would look better with a Mao style collared shirt.

    What do you think?

I've gotta say, that's a solid look, and very much in the spirit of the original. Is this a new subsection of kiltwear in the making? I propose 'gonzo-casual' as the term for this style...;-)

Gonzo-Casual... I think I like it. The funny thing is, I don't feel like I'm wearing something totally inappropriate. I feel comfortable and I think I look like I'm comfortable in a semi-dressed kinda way... I wouldn't mind going out dressed like this. Really, a kilt will make anything look good.... (almost anything)
Gipsy-Kilted, Gonzo-Casual (or Gonzo-Kasual) is opening my mind a bit more about accessories... (darn... forgot the flatcap...)

Absolutely right! It's almost as if putting a kilt on is enough of a statement in itself that you can slip some other experimental stuff in under the radar. I really like the mixture of patterns~ you've lucked out with the colours here as well. Good work sir!

I love the waistcoat, not so sure about the hose. I do like the idea of Gonzo Casual though.

I'm with Glen on this one. Love the waistcoat, not sure about the hose.

The term is catchy, but I am not sure how to define gonzo casual ?

I have no room to talk about anyone's fashion sense though.

I think the waistcoat is horrible, and you should send it to me immediately so you won't be tempted to wear it any longer... but only if it is a 44 chest. Otherwise, it looks great!

I think the socks would look better if they were a tad longer, but I think the color and pattern are fine for a casual look. Maybe ask a knitter to create some similarly styled cuffs for them.

'Gonzo' is a term originally applied to a style of journalism, 'Using an unconventional, exaggerated and highly subjective style' (Wiktionary). A possible definition of Gonzo Casual might be an approach to kiltwear which is playful, experimental, tongue-in-cheek but executed with passion rather than mockery. A sort of sartorial salute to the very concept of 'the Rabble'. I also think it should exhibit a good deal of comfortable crumpledness, even scruffiness. Both Be Da Veva and M. Newsome's photo find (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/i...966/index.html) provide us with an excellent blueprint.

Looking at it again, one thing that would really set this outfit off would be a Ferguson Britt sporran.

I like it. I like the hose....I think they work with your kilt (I think they would look even better with a Burns Check or something like that) You definitely need to have someone make you cuffs on a Knifty Knitter or something.
