Themed Kilts and corporate tartan

I would like to know your opinions about themed Kilts, in particular the Rampant Lion* tartan. As a Frisian, I do not belong to a scottish or irish clan. I wonder if British - in particular Scots - would take offence at me waering Rampant Lion tartan. The Rampant Lion does not mean anything to me, but I like the pattern.

Apart from the Rampant Lion and the Barbour** tartan, so far I never saw a tartan that I realy like very much. Unfortunately I have never seen a Kilt made of Barbour's tartan. Anybody who knows witch tartan comes realy close to it?

Hi Wolfgang, an opinion you ask for and one you'll get...

I don't like the themed kilts, for me it's tartan or plain.
But that's just me.

I can see the reasons behind a themed kilt, however it just does not seem proper. A tartan or plain like an Irish kilt as far as I am concerned is the way to go. But it is your decision and you know that you will have the support of the forum regardless.

Not many days ago I had no doubts to buy a Rampant Lion Kilt next year. It seems that the gravitation of the masses of grahams posts exert influence on me.

Maybe someone can help me find a tartan very similar to the Babour tartan, please?

It is not the same but the browns in the Tartan you linked are somewhat close to the those.
As far as themed kilts go Me personaly they are not to my taste.
I started out wanting to go with a Utilikilt or something similar to that but now that I have a Tartan Kilt I can't see myself getting a non Tartan one for awhile, ... atleast till I manage to collect a few more Tartan ones I have my eye on.

I like the pattern and colors of that tartan, Wolfgang, and if that's what your making your decision on, then go for that one, or a similar looking one. On the other hand, I personally would like to feel a connection of sorts with the tartan I choose, and even if you aren't Scottish, it still may be possible to find one you like and feel connected to. I was looking at the website you gave the link for, and there are some really cool universal tartans, with different themes, there are tartans for many countries, regions, states, and cities (Canada, United States, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Argentina, and on and on). They have a tartan for the New Millenium, and one for Princess Di. There's even a tartan for German Nationals (Ikelman No. 5). You could pick a regional/city/state tartan for a place that you've been to and have an emotional attachment too. You have Frisian roots, so I don't know if you have a connection to the Netherlands or not, but there is a Dutch tartan too. Also, I think a lot of tartans look better in kilt form that as a digital image or a square of cloth.
