Transporting a kilt across the pond - Kilt Tubes?

Hi folks,

It's official! The Molly Roger Rollergirls (Melbourne, FL), are playing a bout in Dublin Ireland next October, and I will be going to serve as a referee for the game. I would like to bring my USAK Italian-American with me, but have concerns about it getting damaged in my duffle bag. Are the Kilt Tubes I've seen on the net worth the investment?

I have no experience of the kilt tubes. But I have to ask, what damage is going to be sustained by your kilt while it is in your dufflebag? Will it get creased and need re-pressing - maybe. But then, it will need re-pressing if you use a kilt tube.

Why not wear it and re-press when you get to Dublin?

Or this could be a good excuse to buy a cheap kilt just for travelling in.

I use the kilt tubes and I have found then to be excellent in travelling with the kilt rolled inside. And carried on flight as hand luggage but without a kilt pin.

I'd say definitely wear the kilt to travel, the air hostesses will give you the VIP treatment

If you don't want to wear it on the plane then baste the bottom of the pleats, roll it up and stick it in a United States Postal Service medium size priority tube. They are free at the post office and will fit nicely in the overhead compartment.They are a triangular tube shape and work great for mailing (as they are intended) also....

That's what I did. I packed two kilts rolled up in my checked luggage.

I wore a USAK casual (no metal, very comfortable) for the trip.

The local TSA personnel gave me special handling, despite my not tickling their metal detector. It may simply have been too good a training opportunity to pass up.

Needless to say, no one batted an eye at Gatwick.
