Update on the Hamilton cotton twill kilt...

This is the result of my efforts, a little over a year ago. It's badly creased as it was stored hastily, and needs re-ironing. The pleats held moderately well under restaurant dinner wear in my first public kilting. I haven't sewn them in (yet) but probably will via machine with a low-tension long stitch, as recommended.

I will be relegating this to a "display kilt" with the targe I made on a wall display for my basement once I get the basement rec room finished. I will be purchasing a true wool kilt for highland games attire, and such.

My last outing with this kilt will probably be St. Patty's day later this month at our local Irish pub (Finnigan's Wake, Winston-Salem, NC).

Comments welcome. Rocky, can you do pleats in this style, whites along edge of pleat?

As you intimated, 100% cotton is tough to keep looking fresh, but every now and then it's just the ticket. In a dark pub no one will see the wrinkles, and throwing it in the washer sure beats cleaning wool. Don't totally give up on it just yet.

Yes, it CAN be done, but we really don't like to. A kilt, pleated to the stripe, should have the stripe running down the CENTER of every pleat, not off to the side. It makes the pleats look 'un-balanced' to my eye. I can't put a finger on the thread, but Barb T agreed with me on this point some time ago (doing the pleats like that came up before).
