Washing your casual

I've got a PV casual from USAK and I know they're machine washable, but I was wondering how often everyone washes their kilts? Mine is not dirty by any means, but I'm curious.

I wash a casual, generally, every 4-6 wears. (Contrast that to pants, which last 2 wears only.) Machine wash cold, regular cycle, follow with a BRIEF stay in the dryer (maybe 3-5 minutes), then straighten pleats and hang to dry. This applies to USAK, Utilikilts, Amerikilts and others.

I seldom wash my USA Casuals. Think I've done it twice.

When I did it was cold water, gentle cycle, and hang dry.

I hang it across three hangers with five clips each on the shower rod. I fold the underapron back behind the pleated part and clip it up too.

Then I apply my weighted clips to the pleats so they dry straight, no need for ironing.

For them that don't know I make the weighted clips out of the extra WalMart clips they sell in the hanger section. Attach a half ounce fishing weight to each side of the clip with duct tape. Works sort of like a clip on tablecloth weight to hold the pleats straight as they dry.

Use them on my UK's too which I still wash after most every wearing, more to wash out the wrinkles than anything. The weights save ironing with my UKs.

i dont have a usa casual but i have a sport kilt and in the last 6 months i think ive washed it once........maybe twice

One thing Rocky stresses. Do NOT use any fabric softener on them. It will, over time, remove the coating on the PV.

Thanks for the info fellas. I carry a small pkg of wet wipes with me, so if I get sweaty from walking or something I can freshen up a bit, so I should be good to go for awhile.

Machine wash cold water with like colors. NO FABRIC SOFTENER (thanks for stating that already Brad).

Hang dry or lie flat (and open) to dry.

I wash my kilts after several wearings... don't want to overwash them, but they shouldn't stand up by themselves, either. Good rule of thumb... Every 3 - 4 times if you don't sweat. Every time or every other time if you sweat a lot. If you spill something on it, you can either spot clean it with a damp rag or just throw it in the washer.

I don't wash my kilts very much. I haven't cleaned my wool kilts EVER (though one of them has enough beer worked into the weave that I could probably suck on it and get a buzz). My hiking kilt gets washed every week or two while I'm backpacking, which means it's about able to stand up on its own.

I wash my kilts about every 5 wearings or so, unless something gets spilled on them. I'll probably get lynched for admitting to this, but I also tumble dry on low heat. My Black Watch kilt started life as a great kilt several years ago, and I haven't seen any ill effects yet.
