wearing kilt to prom

When wearing a jacket, you don't wear a belt, right?

Also, I have a black watch tartan kilt...what should I wear, a black shirt or white shirt?

You can wear a belt with a jacket, but not with a waistcoat. If it's for your Prom I would suggest a white shirt as the function befits that level of formality.

When wearing a waistcoat/vest one doesn't wear a belt as the buckle ruins the lines of the waistcoat/vest (this goes for all outfits.

For a prom I would wear a white shirt.
