Wearing New Kilt

I will be wearing my kilt for the first time April 5th to church. The church has a sister church in Scotland. I'm in the American Legion.kilt is US Forces with matching neck tie, flashes and navy blue socks. White Legion shirt with all ribbons and patches. Should I wear leather sporran or black fur sporran? Both sporrans have USAF insignia on them. Hi-gloss combat boots, can I wear white military leggings with them. Also have cream colored socks and red flashes. Thank you for your help.

Hate to break it to you, but most members of the forum would really discourage the cream hose. See if you can get a pair of blue or black hose instead. The sporran depends on what you are going for; since you will be wearing medals and insignia, I would tend to go for the smooth leather black sporran, more uniform like. Any event you should look smashing.

Just to make your decision more confusing, I would wear the cream hose and red flashes. (I'm not familiar with your tartan, I presume it has some red in it for the flashes to pick up?) My best pair of hose are cream and were knitted for me as a wedding gift by my sister. I wear them all the time and I think they look swell. As a disclaimer, my tastes aren't as traditional as many members here.

For the sporran, I agree with Brooster. Wear the plain leather.

No matter what you wear, there will probably be no one there who knows the traditions of highland fashion. So wear what you think looks good and walk proudly.

I would qualify what Brooster said to "some members of the forum." Some are very vocal. But they do not speak for everyone. Don't get people going on that subject. Do what you think looks best.

I've worn kilt hose and flashes with combat boots once...in a Veteran's Day parade...seemed kinda weird, but no one seemed to know the difference out here in the boonies.



Even have a pic of a kilted police officer with combat boots, white kilt hose, with flashes...with the kilt hose and flashes pushed down.

I make a distinction between white and cream hose. To some they're the same but to me they look completely different. I wouldn't hesitate to wear the cream. I too wear "combat" boots with casual kilt wear. I also find that, for me, cream hose go with everything.

I like cream hose for formal wear, but , I would wear the navy blue hose in this situation as I think it would suit the occasion better. Also the Leather sporran

Based on the description of your attire, it sounds as if you will be participating with a color guard/party, such as the Scottish American Military Society (SAMS)?
