What color to Burns Night.

I need your help to determine which hoses I shall wear to Burns Night on Saturday. This is my first Burns Night as a member of the Caledonian Society of Norway. Actually, it's my first Burns Night ever and I want to look my best.

Cream hoses with a nice knitted pattern:

Or navy piper hoses:

All advice much appreciated.....

I'd suggest the Navy piper hose. It's more consistent with the rest of what you're wearing.

I vote navy - the cream (as nice as they are) look a little stark.

Regards

I'd go with the blue hose.

I was thinking the same thing. The contrast with the extremely dark colors in the kilt, plus black shoes and dark flashes, make the cream hose look very white, which in turn makes it stand out a little too much.

The cream hose might fare better with less contrast in the surrounding colors (i.e. a lighter/brighter kilt, red flashes, etc.). For this outfit, though, I think the navy hose match better. Although, when going with the navy hose, I'd still consider using some flashes/garters that stand out better. Got any standard red ones?

I'd say given the two options I'd wear the navy.

The navy on the bottom is more balanced. I like the cream, but I would wear the navy with your jacket and formal shirt.

With those shoes, I'd also advise the navy blue hose. However, if you were to have access to a pair of ghillie brogues with laces that wrap around your ankles and lower legs, the contrast of the black laces against the cream hose makes for a very nice look. That look is basically lost with darker hose.

Best o' luck, and I hope you enjoy your first Burns Nicht! We just observed our 20th local celebration this past Saturday, and it was my first time making the haggis for about 100 folk!
