Ditto to what Jock said. I don't mind them with Norwegian national dress at all. I grew up in a small town in Iowa, populated mostly by Norwegians and and their descendants; therefore, I am quite familiar with the Norwegian national dress (we had a festival every year where the bunad was worn).

Anyway, most (all) seem to agree you should wear blue.

Navy... always go for a dark hose to compliment the kilt. The lighter hose gives too much contrast and directs the eye to your leg away from your face.

Although I think both the cream and the navy look good with the overall outfit, I would go with the navy because they allow the relatively dark colors of the kilt with its highlight overcheck colors to pop from the dark blue/black background. You have enough white above the waist to provide come contrast and pull out the lighter colors of your kilt.

I vote Navy, it makes the whole outfit look sleek.
Now I am trying to figure out how you button up the "Bunad" jacket ?

I'm guessing that one doesn't. Like a Sherriffmuir doublet, for instance.

Fluter: You are guessing absolutely right. This Bunad The jacket should not be buttoned up, so it is with PC jacket too. I think there are many similarities between the formal Kilt attire and Bunad.

Thanks again for all the good advise and comments on my attire.
It was a great evening and the Haggis tasted fantastic. Se the thread from the Burns Night at The Caledonian Society of Norway here>>

I liked the cream/white hose with that tartan, but I thought blue was better with the total outfit. With white hose, your eye would be back and forth between the shirt and the hose, and the kilt would fade away.

Thanks david. You are a man of courage. I went for the blue though, but on the Burns night supper, I was somewhat in the minority. Most had white hoses while some had argyll hoses.
