What the heck do I wear?

I confess, I'm getting a little nervous about aspects of my holiday.

I've just been invited, while at a church convention in Denver, to a special lunch for pastors and wives, including international delegates (me).

Denver will be hot, I'm thinking PV eight yard USAK will be cool enough. I don't have a jacket, I'm guessing white shirt, tie, and kilt. What do you all think?

This will be groundbreaking, no other member, let alone delegate has turned up in a kilt before, it's a first!! History in the making.

They will be dissappointed, they'll b expecting me to turn up in shorts and Akubra hat just like crocodile Dundee (hey, that's a Scottish name!!).
Instead they will get a man in a kilt.

The kilt should be cool enough. You might consider a pastel dress shirt instead of white, in a color that compliments your kilt. I sometimes wear a blue one with mine.

If the convention is in a worthwhile facility, I'm sure there will be air conditioning.

    Have a good time!

Graham, just wear what is comfortable for you. If they expext a Crocodile Dundee outfit, I am sure a white shirt and tie will be dressy enough.

Besides, most of them are not going to think where is his jacket, instead, they are going to wonder where is Graham's pants.

Do you have an Argyll Jacket?

Personally, I'd wear an appropriate jacket regardless of the heat. If it is less than formal, you can always remove it.

    Necktie?

I know Denver's on the Eastern slope, but they consider themselves Western. You might be the only guy in the city with a tie on?

Open neck shirts are common in our Western heat...unless your church is a very formal one consider losing the tie.

Mostly undertakers and attorneys headed for court wear neckties in the summer in the Western U.S.

I agree with a shirt that compliments the tartan too.

But hey Graham...I can't see ANY garments overriding the core of who you are...just smile and they'll hardly notice what you're wearing.

Enjoy your time in Denver. Hope they get you off the plains and up into the Rockies while you're there.

Yeah. Ditch the tie and any thoughts of a jacket.

    Just do whatever is comfortable.

Neckties are a noose anyway. Wont catch me wearing one. It is a totally illogical useless piece of clothing that serves no effective purpose what so ever.

Seems to me that a nice rough and ready aussie hat and a kilt is as close an interpretation of 'Crocodile Dundee' as one can find! Ditch the tie, get one of these and instead of the sgian dubh strap a bowie to your side!

    ties...

    Graham,

I agree with Doc H. on this one -- a tie shows a professional demeanor. If they are expecting the stereotype of Australians, show them that's only in the movies. If you don't have a jacket, then the shirt & tie should be fine.

My grandfather, who was an Iowa farmer, always wore a suit & tie to church. He said it showed respect for the institution he was attending.

How does a noose, er, a tie, show respect by wearing it?

I have always wanted to know...

It because you show you are willing to strangle your self to look nice? A symbolic noose around your neck to show you were submissive to those greater to you?

How does wearing a tie show respect... I really want to see somebody answer that.
