What to wear with black UK Survival?

I have a black UK Survival that my wife likes more than the tan Mocker. (I just found this out. And I found out my daughter, who is in the Army, doesn't like my kilts. Oh well, she is just not used to her dad in a "skirt". ha ha)

I have black kilt hose, or off white. I have black flashes. Would the black flashes really show up on the black hose? Would the off white hose be too much of a contrast with black flashes? What color dress shirt would go best? I have a good selection as most go with black and some are light designed with multiple colors. I even have a black shirt, but that might be too much black.

My wife has a choral group she is singing in on Saturday night and I was wondering what to wear? It is not a real dress up affair, but I just want to look nice.

Thanks for the advice, I will let you know what I chose.

It's a good idea to match the flashes to a color in the shirt. I'll have to defer to others on the choice of socks.

    Black is a good base.

Black hose w/(black) flashes would be fine, but then I'd go with a lighter top: sweater or dress shirt (or both). If you have any other color choice for the flashes, let them match the shirt.

Depending on the formality and if you are wearing a tie, you could let your tie be the focus with color and keep the shirt white or at least a light color that coordinates well with the tie.

If you went with the off-white kilt hose and black flashes, perhaps something in a light colored shirt and/or sweater. Here, a black tie might look good against the lighter shirt.

I'd stay away from the black shirt at all cost!

A white or gray knit sweater would make a nice transition between the black of the kilt and the lighter colors of the shirt (especially if you are not wearing a tie). Since you are in the U.P., I'm assuming it still cool enough for a sweater.

Good luck and post a picture, if possible of your final decision.

A good rule of thumb is to try to match the hose with dominant color of the shirt, or if worn, a jacket. That balances your colors and appearrance.

How about black hose, white flashes, black shirt, white tie.

I would wear the black hose without the flashes and a white or beige shirt without a tie.

I've always thought that kilt hose looks a bit odd with Utilikilts. I'd wear some nice black dress hose, black dress shoes and a nice shirt and tie.

If you want to go with kilt hose, black hose with black flashes would be a good look with the UK, in my opinion.

Any nice dress shirt should look good with a black UK.

    this is a tough one.

before anything, be sure to iron the pleats on the UK. I'm sure you've learned that they get all wrinkled and out of place failry easily.

    as for the clothing?

check out the gent on the bottom right in his black UK. Might give you an idea.

there are several others on the UK site dressed formally in a black UK. Should find plenty of ideas.

Since my UK black survival has faded somewhat (neither my original or workman have) I would lose the black hose and wear the off white, or better yet find grey hose and leave the black flashes. Black (Very Dark Grey) and off white are neutral colors so any color dress shirt is fine (actually you could match flashes to the shirt if you wanted). Another good option is a tartan shirt (I have a Black Watch dress shirt that I wear with UK's quite often).
