why I don't lose my kilt pin

Just pin it though a piece of rubber band on the underside of the top apron.

Some of my kilt pins are the large safety pin/diaper type (with jewel and gold plate though) and they would never come off.

But the ones with the treacherous clasp fasteners I am always having to check, especially having lost one in crowds at an agricultural show. I will try the rubber band idea and see how it goes.

For pin spring type clasp, the rubberband works. For stud/butterfly clasp, use a pencil eraser. For cheap erasers, you might want to look at replacement erasers at a craft/art store like Hobby Lobby. The art department (disclosure->I work as an art department manager in on of my current jobs) has electric and "quick clic" erasers that can be cut down to length for different stud pins. I'm sure other stores sell the same item, though I don't look anywhere else in my time "off."

Over in the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby they have the PERFECT fix for the stud or stick pin type. It's a small circular tube that goes over the end and has a tiny screw in the side of it. Tighten the screw and nothing gets lost! Now if you have a hobby shop that sell r/c plane parts, you can get the same thing, cheaper and with more in the package! Just a thought.
