I wear a kilt for comfort, ease of movement, and because I feel like wearing one.

Yes, wearing one takes a certain amount of self-esteem: if you have a poor self-image, those who would mock you will have a serious effect.

I have been wearing a kilt for a couple of weeks now, so that makes me a kilt newbie too. Maybe others on this forum have noticed what I have; wearing a kilt seems to reveal a usually unseen side of people. It didn't take me very long to notice.

People who care about me try to make me conform. (wear p@nts)
People who don't care about me ignore me.
People who tease me make me bolder and more confident.
When I was young and immature I wasn't prepared for teasing like that.

Who said you have to wear anything under your kilt? Going without underwear is known as "regimental," due to the practice being common (if not enforced?) in kilt-wearing military units. People outside the military may or may not choose to follow this practice, which leads to other people's fascination with "the question" of what is under a man's kilt.

The reasoning behind it; because I felt it was imperative for this forum to have a thread about why one should wear a kilt. I asked because I never really knew the whole point behind it other than the reasons I read:

To say the least, it would be nice to know why an ordinary person would wear it. And, by the replies in this thread, I can make the assumption that people don't know why they wear it. However, for some, I can make the inference that it's a family tradition, it's within heritage/culture to do so; etc.

Should? Would? May? You've three different modal verbs in your questions, so it's hard to figure out exactly what you are asking. Should implies imperative. Would is conditional. May is possible.

You can assume that people don't know why they wear a kilt, but you would be wrong. You pretend to ask questions, but you don't appear to be listening to the answers. They don't fit your idea of sufficient justification, as though the reasons listed above don't matter.

The reasons for wearing a kilt are as varied as the people who wear them. It's not our job to persuade you to wear one. We can tell you the history of kilts, or we can tell you the benefits, or we can tell you the impact it's had on us, or personal meaning behind why we wear one, but you either want to, or you don't.

BruceBC has the best answer: it is your own.

You came here out of some sort of curiosity, I gather. Rather than us tell you reasons that don't fit your paradigm, why don't you tell us why you care at all?

From the tone of your questions and responses to answers you seem to be confrontational about wearing a kilt instead of honestly interested in why those of us here do wear kilts. So my advice to you is simply if you don't know why you might want to be kilted then you probably shouldn't be kilted. Your personality seems to lend itself to conforming to rigid social mores and dressing according to today's fads. Stick with jeans and a t-shirt.
