Women's kilts/skirts?

I've been thinking about dressing in tartan for special events like the games and holidays but all I see for womens skirts are either to the ankle or mini-kilts. I don't like the look of an ankle length skirt and let's just say that I'm past the age where mini-anything is appropriate.

Do any of you know what would be appropriate and where I'd find such an item? I've only seen traditional kilts on men or on women as uniforms.

Have you looked at what is available from Rocky and Kelly at USA Kilts? I just had a kilt skirt made for my wife for Christmas and it comes down to "regulation" kilt height - just about at the top or center of the kneecap. Plus they do fantastic work!

You might take a peek at Scottish Tartans Museum. I'm not sure of the pricing though.

My wife has several knee length kilted skirts. If you are having them made they can be made to any length you like. You are not limited to what you see; most of the lengths are quoted as maximum length.

My personal opinion is that I don't like kilts on women, anymore than I would want to see a woman wearing a man's suit. I think women's suits look lovely as do women's kilted skirts. I certainly understand the need for ladies to wear men's kilts when they are in a pipe band however.

Ours are all made to measure, so you just tell us how long you want it and that is how it is made. Unlike men's kilts, which are always knee length, there is no standard length for the ladies. In my experience, anywhere from just below the knee to mid-calf is common. But I've taken orders for everything from 14" long down to floor-length.
