    Buckles

Does anyone have a source for inexpensive centerbar buckles for 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch straps? I need 6 for my current projects and can't find a local source and I really don't want to drop $14 for a set of 3 with straps since I have the leather already.

Try Tandy Leather or The Leather Factory. Depending on the size and degree of ornamentation, you can get them ranging from under a buck to $20.00 or more.

How about buying 3 identical/similar leather belts from a thirft store? Since you are just going for the buckles, you can even use children and womens' belts.

I've been looking at thrift stores. I have yet to find the right number centerbar buckles in the same size. The problem is I need 6. 3 for my wifes outfit and 3 for my kilt. I'll likely order from Tandy, although I did see some nice looking ones on another website with celtic knotwork. I just hesitate to spend $6 each on that.

Velcro is surely just as functional, but the traditional buckles and straps look sooo much better. Sounds like the project is proceeding well, Bubba. Be sure to post some pictures when complete. We'll be witnessing the birth of Bubba's Kiltshop's new line!

There will be a bit of velcro involved in the wifes outfit for practical reasons, but I agree the straps and buckles add a great touch which is why I'm insistant on using them. Linda already is thinking about the next outfit. She wants box pleats next time. At this rate I'm going to have to start doing this as a business just to finance her wardrobe and my kilts.

I use my local tack shop (Saddle maker) for findings. In fact they make my billets and straps and supply all the hardware for my kilts.
As they have all the dies for cutting the straps and billets gives it that extra professional look.
The buckles I buy are under $1 Canadian each.
    Cheers

Bubba. I get mine from the leather factory. The 1-1/4" econo- center bar buckles are perfect for kilts and only around $1.49 each
