| | | Clan Chiefs and how they pleat their kilts
There was a thread sometime last year concerning how chiefs pleated their kilts, but for some reason that thread is closed. In it, I commented that most of the chiefs I have met have kilts pleated to the sett.
I new picture has come to light of my own chief, Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart and Morvern, wearing a kilt to an evening clan gathering pleated to the stripe: 
I have never noticed Sir Lachlan wearing such a kilt before...although I've never really paid any attention!

It was decided to close threads after 6 months of inactivity which would explain why it was closed, that is a wonderful photo, I really like the choice of hose and doublet.

That's a beautiful tartan to be pleated to line. I've got both among my kilts.

From the looks of it, this kilt appears to have rather wide pleats, as well. I wonder what the yardage might be?

Here is Bachuil, Chief of Clan MacLea (Livingstone). I know I've seen a picture of his pleats but don't find it this evening. His kilt would be pleated to sett. That is daughter next to him, Catriona, Maid of Bachuil. 
Sorry about the small size, I only have the choice of this or one that is REALLY large.

I wonder what the yardage might be? | Actually, the more that I look at the photo, the more I'm thinking that this kilt may have typical narrow pleats, but be pleated to alternate lines, mening the yellow/white stripes only appear on every other pleat.

I have never seen or thought of pleating in this way. For this tartan, it makes for a very attractive pattern!
Has anyone ever seen this done before? What would you call this, "pleat to alternating stripe"?
