If you go over to the Scottish Tartan Museum page of Sgian Dubhs, here
and scroll down till you see The Torridon range, these are made of wood. I'm not sure how these would hold an edge, but they are wood and te prices are comparable to the plastic you will find at local tartan shops.

I ordered mine from the Scottish Tartans Museum. It's wood, carved in a "military style," but the stone is imitation Cairngorm. It's a very nice piece.

I made mine out of a solingen steel blank I had left over from some long ago project, and a piece of fancy walnut turned on my lathe. I inlaid a pewter thistle button in the butt.
Am not where I can access it for a few days or would post you a picture. You can get blades from Atlanta Cutlery for around $15 the last I checked. I have not done so but plan to this winter. Thought I would make a few.
You can find DIY threads on here to give you a lot of good ideas. With a little imagination and only a little bit of ability you can make something which will mean more to you than what you buy.
