Kilt glasses, kilt watches, kilt pens, kilt cars

We spend a lot of time discussing certain accessories- hose, shoes, headgear- but other items are not talked about much. I am asking with my tongue heading towards my cheek, but is there such a thing, really, as a kilt watch? Do certain eyeglasses "go" with THCD while others do not? What other daily-use items are there that might or might not be appropriate for wear or carrying with the kilt? And why? I am posting here and not in the Accessories sub forum because I particularly want the Traditional perspective.

My larger question has to do with the "living tradition" we have talked about so much lately- the spirit of adaptation that keeps the kilt from being a costume, the approach that makes us traditional, not historical. I am eager to know why we adopt the cromach, for instance, but not the silver- topped walking stick of the Edwardians.

Again, historical reenactors will shun inconsistent personal effects ( "Ahem , sir, your iPod case must be either suede or patent leather, snakeskin is not period correct.") while the rest of us usually let practicality be our guide. Are there notable exceptions, or particularly good examples to/of this principle?

Any modern conveniences that you have connected to your kilt wearing?

Well I guess you could say one appropriate "kilt car" at least in the US would be the early 70's Chevrolet Monte Carlos where the front seats pivoted on their bases. Think this feature would make it much easier to get into and out of the vehicle without worrying about wrinkling the pleats. I'm sure there are other cars that have offered a feature like this but that is the one I have personal experience with, so naturally it comes to mind first. Not sure if the fact that it is now old enough to qualify as a "historic car" helps it better fit into this category or not.

Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses, which I wear with mufti, as well as in Highland attire. I usually carry a Mont Blanc pen in my jacket pocket.

There is at least one thread dealing with pocket watches (when pairing a waistcoat with the kilt).

And here's the "un-pocket watch" option:

Unless you're in a period setting, where pince-nez may be required, I'd persoanlly say, whatever you've got.

Ok, a 'disney' style watch may not go with the rugged casual kilted hiker look, and a pocket watch may go better with a vest, but other than that, I'd say wear what you like.

The way of wearing a kilt is purely a personal expression - even when wearing formal BPC, you can decide to wear a clan pin or not, wear a fly plaid or not, with a Tam or not. Its purelky down to you.

I'm still thinking about MacLowlife's question but I'd like to bring people's attention to the fact that this is the traditional sub-forum and he has also explicitly asked for those type of answers...

I hadn’t given it much thought until now. Let’s see…

I wear glasses at work due to the typically dusty/dirty nature of my job sites. But when kilted I like to wear contact lenses. During the day so that I can wear sun glasses, and at night just because I think it looks better.

I always carry a folding pocket knife. Always, except when I’m kilted, then the folder is left at home and a sgian dubh is carried.

Kilt pen…I don’t usually carry a pen unless I’m at work. I guess if I did carry one it would be a black lacquered and gold-trimmed Mont Blanc roller ball.

Kilt watch…I have several watches, but I’ve worn one consistently for the past 20 years, and don’t plan on changing that.

Kilt car…well that is an interesting one. I only have the options of my truck or my wife’s’ “soccer-mom” van. If money wasn’t an object, I think a European luxury sedan would fit the bill nicely. But then again would the car be an accessory to the kilt or the kilt to the car?

Cell phone…I use a black leather sleeve by Sena Cases for my phone. It goes well with everything. No belt clip, so the whole thing just goes in the sporran.

Kilt wallet…same as the phone; black leather, thin, goes in the sporran.

    Wink technology meets tradition

Perhaps it is the influence of HRH The Duke of Rothesay, but I tend to think that a pocket watch goes better with a traditional kilt outfit than a wrist watch. If it is a wristwatch, analog rather than digital. The reason is that those are more traditional timepieces, so they seem to fit better.

If I'm going to an event kilted, I usually have a digital camera. At that point my dirk belt actually becomes a camera case belt If I'm not wearing a belt, then the camera usually ends up in a jacket pocket. The case makes it too large to go in my sporran and the screen might get scratched if it was banging around in there without the case...

I've seen sporrans recently with cell phone holders, which could also perhaps work for a camera. It doesn't change the outward appearance of a an otherwise traditional sporran but it is certainly a modern convenience. I seem to recall seeing someone with a slim enough cellphone stuck in the top of their kilt hose but I can't seem to find a picture of it...

My cellphone has a red string and jade fob on it, which hangs out of the pocket or sporran for quick access. It can just barely be seen in the following pictures.

    Sporran:

And when I searched Google for 'kilt glasses' I came up with these
