Kilt Lengths in Gathering Photos

I am not trying to cause trouble here, but looking at the various photos of the Gathering posted, most of the kilts seem to be from mid-knee to the bottom of the knee. I had been lead to believe that this would be on the long side. Comments?

Yes, mid to bottom of the knee is not the current modern tradition. It should be mid to top of the knee for the modern look.

Maybe they slid down after a long day's walking around searching for long-lost kinfolk.

I would have to agree the kilt tends to slide when out walking for a day.

One can only guess off course with any picture, but as the others have pointed out, the kilt does tend to sink a wee tad over the day. Mine does anyway, after a long day.

Another thing to consider is that the angle of the camera when taking photos of groups is generally from eye level looking down. That would tend to make kilts seem a bit lower than they actually are. My kilts all fall at the top or just below the top of my knee, but in many photos of me the kilt appears to fall at the center of my knee.

There are some people who seem to wear them longer on purpose, but this isn't the "modern" way to wear a traditional kilt; too long. It may be they don't know, or it may have slid down a bit. Some wear the kilt longer because they think it's cool.

Thumbs up

I agree with all the above, after a day of walking around at the games, I find myself ducking aside and readjusting mine from time to time, always up of course!

I dont sit the kilt above my whole knee... at The Gathering it stayed on my mid-knee is usual. It's just however you prefer it - although obviously if your kilts sitting out a bit from your legs at the front and people are looking down at it then it would appear your knee is covered.
best example of how I like to wear it:

To be honest I think most Scots who probably own one kilt for formal occasions would think it would look "stupid" to show your knee in a kilt.
From what I remember from my prom and a couple of weddings I've been to what you're saying is true. I've seen a guy wearing his kilt far below his knee and a plaid on "the wrong shoulder", kilt pin on the wrong side and it just didnt look right to me. However - he probably thinks "it's ok... it'll do" or had simply looked at a reversed or mirror-taken picture to guide him!
