I'm with the minority - I did have a kilt pin get caught, it did rip the kilt apron, and as a result I only wear a pin on dress occasions. Especially with the number of jumping dogs I encounter in casual situations.
When I do wear a kiltpin, I also stay away from the "sword" type. My favorites are my X Marks kilt pin and one similar to this: (I have really got to take some pictures ...)
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.
