proper crommach

Where does one get a proper crommach? I have see a few of you with one in pictures.

I am looking for one 4 to 5 foot in length with an ivory or stag crook handle.

I didn't see one in Scotland this summer but I might have not looked in the right place.

Thanks in advance

I know of three fine stick makers: John Marsh on Mull ( http://www.stickmaker.com/ )

and Scottish Stickcraft ( http://www.scottishstickcraft.com/ )

and Caledonian Sticks ( http://www.caledoniansticks.co.uk/ )

John Marsh made me a beautiful cromach a few years ago, with a buffalo horn crook.

I recently bought a sheep's horn cromach from http://www.wrencountrysticks.co.uk/.

I've been very pleased with both customer service and quality. I highly recommend.

Cordially,

David

Thanks, I knew there had to be some places to get one. As I suspected they are an elegant accessory but certainly not an inexpensive one. I know from the mouth of a Scot.

I was able to pick up mine at a local highland games for quite a bit less than some of the sticks shown in those links. My point is that good purchases are out there if you look for them. Here is a photo of mine.

Many stalkers(of deer) make them too. The names that Sandy has given you are well worth a try. Here is a couple of pictures of my cromach which is in daily use and is nearly 50 years old. A stalker made it for my 21st birthday.

Cromach

I can highly recommend Robert Cardno of Caledonian Sticks. He has made me two cromachs, both hand-carved as I instructed, and he did a great job each time They cost me around £85.00 each if I remember correctly, but this was over 4 years ago.
