Ramsay of Mar and Lady Saltoun

I found this photo of the late Captain Alexander Ramsay of Mar, and his wife Lady Saltoun ( Chief of Clan Fraser ). Mar was a great-grandson of Queen Victoria.

An interesting aspect of this photograph is that it shows the kilt being worn by an amputee. Captain Ramsay of Mar lost his leg in WW II.

If you hadn't of mentioned it I wouldn't have noticed from this picture. Must have taken a substantial amount of of personal courage to wear a kilt when trousers would have easily hidden the problem.

Regards

Chas

I seem to recall that he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order(DSO), hardly a medal handed out for turning up at the NAAFI!

This years Dressed to Kilt Fashion Show benefited the Wounded Warrior project here in the states and it's counter part in the UK and had at least 3 vets in attendance wearing kilts

And speaking of amputees, the link in my signature goes to a group who raise funds to help vets recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Ward 57, where many amputees are cared for during recovery and therapy learning to use their new limbs. Check it out and help if you feel lead to. Sorry for the hijack.
