Scotish Kilts vs Irish Kilts?

This sounds crazy to me but, my brother-in-law keeps telling me that there is a difference betweem Scottish kilts and Irish kilts. He says that an Irish kilt has a two extra pleats in the front of the apron, folded opposite to each other. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I'm not planning on arguing with hin, I just want to know!

I have seen a number of photos of Irish kilts, but I have never seen pleats in the front of the apron.

Far as I know. The only difference is Irish Tartans, or Saffron instead of Scottish Tartans.

As far as I can tell by the photo in Scottish Lion,
the only difference is the tartans.

Hi All, Have a look at my Irish Kilt it is the same as a Scotish kilt. The one I am wearing is at least 25 years old.

Hey Donnie,

Take it from a LONG TIME kilt making Irishman, and a descendant for the first half-kilt maker... there ain't no difference in the construction.

These guys are all correct in the solids and the tartans too.

Don't forget, there are many styles of kilts. Great kilts are different from Half-kilts, etc. It's like jeans. Basically, they all have two legs and a fly. Only subtle touches and company preferences bring out the pockets, patches, flares, zipper versus buttons, etc.
