    Hey all,

When I look for a sgian dubh I treat it just like every other knife I own. It must be functional and be something I could trust my life to. I usually carry this:

The new Sgian Dubh came in Monday from Jim at Comrie Crafts. It is absolutely beautiful, the picture does not do it justice. The handle is African Blackwood with cinnamon oak Bogwood trim with a silver endcapo and celtic cross. The blade is Damascus and surprisingly has a really good edge on it. I recommend Comrie Crafts to anyone who demands quality and simplicity.

    Sgain Dubhs

I actually am making my sgian dubh. I just finished a sgian brew that I fashioned from a stainless bottle opener, (obtained from Rab at Lochness Origins), a naturally shed American white tail deer antler with a black water buffalo horn spacer to separate the bottle opener from the antler handle. I also obtained a damascus sqian dubh blade and block of ebony from Lochness Origins that I'll try to get finished this year. I plan on carving a bone spacer w/scrimshawed celtic knotwork to separate the blade from the ebony handle, which I intend to carve as well.

I'll try to post pictures when I get the sgian dubh finished.

What kind of Skean Dhu? Best you can afford

The skean dhu may be in you kilt hose, but for some reason, at many a dinner people ask to look at it - because they're curious I suppose. If you're slicing up a haggis brought to your table at a Burns Supper it will come out, and for theor foregoing reasons, get the best you can afford. Broadswords and dirks are not something you're likely to wear with your highland gear, but you'll always have your skean dhu. Don't go cheap.

    Dress sgian dubh can't find

Hi all. I'm in need of help. Had found a sgian dubh that has a bogwood oak handle, and a silver cap that was either peened over or had a nut on it. It is similar to the one 1mason bought(without Damascus blade, I believe). Had it saved on my laptop, but somehow lost the ability to find it (water damage, ok whiskey damage). Any help would be appreciated.
