Tanks a Million, Barb T

Well, three at least, including my IOS and MOS tanks, plus this one.

I returned from my week in Florida to find a package from Deansboro, New York on my doorstep (actually, our mail was held and it was delivered the next day, but if we hadn't been on vacation it WOULD have been on my doorstep so I though I'd use the cliche).

FLASHBACK: March 2007 (an EBAY auction): I'm the lucky winner of 4 meters of 16 oz. Campbell Ancient (or Grant Hunting Ancient, or Munro Ancient, or Black Watch Ancient) by House of Edgar. I figured to use it for a great kilt for a while. Then in June I won that Macdonald of Sleat fabric, seen here in a previous thread, and suddenly I had two potential kilts.

September, 2007 (a craps table in Tunica, Mississippi): I walked away with enough winnings to pay Barb Tewksbury for making two kilts from that cloth. I got in her queue, dispatched the material, and hunkered down to try and forget what I'd done (it helps if you have short-term memory issues, like I do). Well, the MOS kilt got here just in time for the company Christmas party. And as above, the Campbell-A/Grant-A/Munro-A/BW-A soon followed.

Just to shake things up a bit I'll put the pleat shot first. What can be said about Barbs meticulous work has already been said. 30 perfect pleats.



Full-length for the overall effect. For those who might be curious, the logo on the thrift-store polo is for Belhaven Ale. ($2 - why pay more?)



Although not shown in detail, the apron has a "hidden" pleat in the first pleat on the left. Barb explained that it sometimes happens that the first pleat might otherwise be too shallow or deep, due to the size of the sett, in order to ensure that the sett is properly centered on the apron (I have a SWK Lamont with that issue). To avoid this she creates an extra pleat that is sewn down the full length of the apron edge. In my case it contains about two inches total of extra material, and has no effect on the look or feel when worn.



And the always popular "foot-on-something-to-display-the-splay" shot. This kilt is totally comfortable, and the material feels soft, yet tight. Barb did a great job. And since Campbell is my strongest line after Gordon, that's what it is. So I have a Campbell and a Macdonald Kilt hanging next to each other in the closet, and nary a cross word is spoken.

Congratulations Turpin. Barb's work is something else, I can not wait for my Tewksbury. I'm also waiting for my WPG Gordon, I'll hang it beside my Dress MacDonald and see what happens.

Yes, It is really that vivid. I don't know how HoE does it. It's pleated to the single black stripe in the green.
