    Turtleneck sweaters....

I like to wear a turtleneck sweater with a kilt for casual wear. I know that sometimes turtlenecks are worn with a sport jacket or blazer and trousers. Question is... Would it be considered bad taste to wear a turtleneck with an Argyl jacket? I tried this combination together and thought that it didn't look too bad but when it comes to kilt accessories... better to ask than wear something like this out someplace and look like a total kilted nerd. What say you, trad kilt fans?

Blu, I don't know what the 'oficial' position would be but I wore a Dress Campbell kilt to Easter services today. It was a litle chilly but I havn't gotten a coat yet so I went with a dark blue turtleneck and dark blue stockings. Your question does start one thinking about the 'entire' look. I know that a kilt does look good with amost anything but my personal feeling is that from your description and my past experiece I don't see a problem with this.

I don't see a problem with that. The Argyl is much like a sports jacket in many ways, being semi formal. Anything you can wear with a sports jacket should be fine.

Well, this is what I thought as well. But those that I showed thought it looked wrong. Look at the example of tartan ties. Everybody says..."no tartan tie with a kilt"... then Sean Connery shows up at an event with a kilt and matching tie!. I thought it looked great. One never knows with this kilt stuff. Some of the rules seem rather whimsical or arbitrary by my way of thinking.

Blu, to a large extent you really make your own rules. If it looks good, neat and is appropriate to the occasion go with it.

Stature and kilts are the same.
You put on your stature in the morning. As much or as little as you want. You wear it and people accept it.
Soon enough, wearing your stature is as natural as wearing your kilt.
    Kilts are garments, not costumes!
