| | | White sporran spotted
I was watching a video on a subject not suitable for this forum, partially because a fella in one of the scenes was wearing a romanticized version of the Great Kilt. There were some distractions, but I did manage to notice his sporran - fairly standard leather three-tassel design, but all white.
It doubt this production had a costumer building things on-site, so am intrigued where and why someone would have a 'standard' design in all white.
Thoughts? (I will PM details of the production for the curious)

The late Sir Fitzroy Maclean of Dunconnel used to wear a white sporran, but alas, I do not have a photograph of him wearing it. I do have this pic, though, of a white sporran with tassels: |

| | I too have an all white sporran. I wear it at Christmas when I do my Scottish Santa Pictures and with my Seton Modern Kilt. Very presentable indeed!

Sporrans crafted from the purest White pelts of the Arctic Acrylibeast are some of the most prized, most desirable Kilt accessories.
Those brave enough, intelligent enough, lucky enough, to find a sporran from this rarest of furs are the envy of the entire kilt world.
Danger, adventure and fame follow those who search for the pelt of this elusive animal. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...ht=Acrylibeast

Out on a limb here, but...White or light buff leathers have been used on dress military/military uniforms in several countries-it breaks the monotony of the outfit, and lends to "exclamation point" focus. That, and if you are focused on the decorative aspects, and all of the folk in the unit match, well, it makes them all the "same"-our eyes fill in the blanks. Case and point, English redcoats with white crossbelts.
As long as it's not being worn before Easter or after Labor day, I don't see anything wrong with it...

Yes, white is not totally out of bounds for sporrans, whether in leather or fur.
In fact, JolyStNicholas mentioned his own white sporran . . . I have been thinking along those lines myself.
When I do a turn as Santa (and I haven’t done so in 46 years) in a kilt (which I have never done before), I plan to be wearing a white sporran, preferably in rabbit fur.
But aside from the role as Santa, I doubt that I would wear white.
On the other hand, I recall an occasion when white leather was not only compulsory but very smart indeed.
My regiment had a presentation of the colour parade in 1969 (my first regimental camp), and we were specially issued with white leather belts and white bayonet frogs for the occasion. With every man carrying a rifle also wearing white around his waist, it made for extra smartness.
Regards,
Mike

The cantle is very unique.

A customer ordered this one a couple of years ago. It's the only one I've made in white.

I am quite partial to white sporrans and am seriously considering a white fur dress sporran. I get serious military vibes from white leather, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I think pulling off a white sporran depends quite a lot on the tartan it is being worn with - especially dark tartan (or dark tweed/plain-coloured) kilts, in my opinion, provide a great contrast to a white sporran.

Here's what I've been talking about :
Which to me is most notable because of how basic it is - apart from the color, I'd think this a day sporran.
