Ok all of you techies. I want to teach you about a google bomb. I want you to email everyone you know with a website and ask them to link to this website with the following code:

<a href="http://www.xmarksthescot.com"><b>X Marks the Scot</b></a>: A community of people who wear <a href="http://www.xmarksthescot.com"><b>kilts</b></a>

If you have friends with blogs that is great too b/c they work really well. Even if you dont know the webmasters email them and ask if they will link here using that code. I want everyone to get as many links as possible back to this website with that code. The more we get the better our link popularity will be. It will be good I promise!

It might work better if more common search terms were used in the Google bomb. I've used this effectively to place some of my own content above the actual manufacturers of what I was writing about in Google results.

Best thing to do is look at your referrer logs, see what people are searching for to find you, and google bomb using those terms.

So maybe something more like:

<b>X Marks the Scot</b> <a href="http://www.xmarksthescot.com">kilt forum</a>: A community of <b><a href="http://www.xmarksthescot.com">kilts</a></b> and their wearers.

EDIT: OK I know there is more than forums here but if you google for "kilt forum", Xmarks comes down lower on the search results than I would expect it to. That's the term I used to find this site, and I would expect it to be a popular query. It obviously could use a little boost in the results.

I am going for the term "kilts". I have tools that tell me how many times a phrase is searched and unfortunately "kilt forum" is not a highly searched term. "Kilts" is the term we are working for right now...

I don't know if anyone has checked recently, but when you do a Google search for kilt forum, this site comes up as number 2. Bravehearts is number one. I think that's pretty good.

first off, google rocks .... go to google labs.... hmm there needs to be a gXXgle day.

and Hank is right. google seriously looks at links. in the meantime and i really hope you don't mind Hank, i made up a logo to go with the url link. i made three sizes, 100x34, 200x64 and 300x100. i threw in a couple of extras for those who need a fix.

they are in my gallery. they are not optimized for the web, however, they should be just fine. and any plaid clad fellows that wants to recompile the images can do so. they are free as along as Hank approves their usage.

Xmarks rocks no matter how it ranks on google. hmmm, although a look at the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative @ dublincore.org might be worth a look see. It's fitting the DCMI is on the Emerald Isle.
