    Addition to our forum...

I thought that this would be a great place to discuss what to wear with our kilts!

Given I just finished making my kilt and it's blue denim I'll likely wear combat boots and a T-shirt mostly

A better question would be what not to wear with a kilt. I find the kilt to be one of the most versatile garments I own. What other garment looks great at the local market, an upscale boutique, a sporting event, or a night at the symphony?

Being the casual type of guy I am, for cooler weather, I prefer a nice wooly sweater, my low cut boots or hiking boots, and a decent pair of socks. For warmer weather, I dispense with the sweater and wear a shirt, either button up or polo. Whatever I wear with my kilt, I always wear my sporran.

My next investment will probably be an argyle jacket.

    Versatility is the key

I've done the lot. I have a black barathea Argyle jacket which I've worn formally. I've hired a Prince Charlie but the Argyle is more versatile.

Black T shirt and Magnums look good. Likewise a co-ordinated plain coloured shirt, fleece, socks and commando soled shoes. Rugby shirt good also.

I'm a sucker for the Highland look in its place. The Montrose jacket and all the trimmings is stunning, but not what you would wear to Walmart.

I also like the jacobean shirts. Again, for a specific type of occasion. I have a nice leather swordsman waistcoat which cost me an arm and a leg. Bit of indulgence here as I can't see me wearing it much.

I am a little contemporary in my thought. For casual I would rather wear a t-shirt or a nice button down linen. A nice sweater goes well too. I dont like the period shirts that a lot of people wear. I say save that for the Ren Faires.

    Just my opinion though.

I do the Argyll Jacket for casual as well b/c I cant affrod the PC!

    boots

I certainly advise against cowboy boots. Just doesn't work.

Combat boots work ok and a T-shirt with the sleeves removed works for me. Of course, that's not with a traditional formal kilt
