antique celtic dragon cantle from Ebay

I just wanted to share a photo of the nice old sporran cantle I got on Ebay a while back.

It's made like old ones you often see: cast of solid nickle, silver plated.

Has anyone ever seen this cantle before? Has anyone seen a matching waistbelt & crossbelt buckle set, or a plaid brooch? I ask because these things were normally made en suite.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

    that looks amazing!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

    That is very handsome.

I was just drooling over these the other day, not sure what you could use them for but they do carry on the theme.

Zoomorphic dirks, sgian dubhs, belt plates, etc. regularly turn up in antique shops and in auction rooms throughout the UK. Diligence pays off; you just have to keep your eyes open and the bits and bobs will eventually surface.

Now all you have to do is have your monogram or crest engraved on the cantle...

That is a grand find indeed. It pays to surf ebay, you never know what you will find.
