    Antique Dirk

I was at my Mom and Dad's House today and he showed me a dirk that they have. It's a gift for my old bagpipe instructor from his wife, my dad helped her find it. It is such an impressive piece that I wanted to share it with you, so here are the pictures.

I wish I had some information on it but I do not I will have to see what I can find on Forsyth of Glasgow. If anyone out there has any information on them I would appreciate it, thanks.

    Hi,

    Beautiful piece.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

A tad bling-bling for my taste---but absolutely rocking nonetheless.

Ah, but it's not bling-bling when it's a nice formal made in Glasgow piece. It should be part of the formal set up so it would be appropriate. It's not for yer average pub night/crawl, in which case, you're statement would be correct.

(not challenging your opinion, just the terminology)

W&J Forsyths of Glasgow were THE Gentlemen's outfitters until they went out of business 20 or 30 years ago. They also had premises in Edinburgh (look for a plaque on the corner of South St Andrew St. and Princes St.. So saying the dirk would have probably been made for them.

Thank you Phil, I have been trying to find any information I can about the maker but have thus far drawn a blank.

Sorry it was R W Forsyth (don't know where I got W&J). Here is a link giving some info about them. The shop closed in 1983.
