Attaching a flyplaid, safe for piping?

    Hello all

I would like to start wearing a fly plaid for piping, but dont want the big brooch to tear up my pipes. Anyone using other ways that would be easier on pipes?

    fly plaid

Don't have that problem. My drones straddle the brooch. I have 2 kinds. I use the flat brooch when piping and the "fancy one" for other occasions. I have seen many pipers with either fly plaid or pipers plaid. Pipers plaid would be better suited in most cases. I have used my fly plaid with the regular brooch with no problems concerning my drones. Just be careful.

Get a brooch that's relatively flat and snag-free (not one of those with the big honking stone in the middle), and wear it high on your shoulder, as worn with a full plaid. Visually, the top of the brooch should be even with the top of your shoulder. Properly worn, it'll end up between your bass and middle tenor, and won't interfere at all.

I vouch for what kypnkilt and PiobBear say. Or, as a lefty, I've given myself permission to put the brooch on the other shoulder.
