Bad idea to buy Accessories before kilt comes?

Is it a bad idea to buy Accessories before you have the kilt in hand?
Should i wait till after i get the kilt?

ps when i say "Accessories" i am thinking along the lines of Belts, Hose, Sgians Dubh and Sporrans. did i miss anything?

The only things that might be a problem are those that you might need to color coordinate with the kilt: hose, flashes, etc., but even those come in standard colors so they shouldn't be a problem.

Belts and sporrans are generally just black or brown, so you can get them whenever you want.

I don't see any problem with getting sgian dubh before the kilt as there is nothing to coordinate them to, unless the have a colored stone. But even then, the stones are standard colors and shouldn't be a problem.

So basically, there shouldn't be a problem getting the accessories before the kilt. In fact, many people buy a package that includes all the items at the same time as the buy the kilt.

as long as you're not going for a very extreme appearance you should be safe buying brown and black accessories so that when your kilt arrives you are ready to strap it on and head out.

I recommend the Buzz Kidder sporrans as a first unless you want to go ahead and invest in a Freelander.

Unless you want to go for the formal kilt belt and buckle you can get by with a 1-3/4" belt available at most clothing stores for half the price.

Check out Hamilton dry goods for inexpensive but quality kilt socks.

Everything else is above and beyond the "minimum recommended"

Many people are of the opinion that all the leather (belt, sporran, shoes or boots) should match, top to bottom - i.e. all black, all brown - so either pick a theme, or get a full set of both. ...or set your own style.

Doesn't really matter much, 'cause eventually you're going to have two or more full sets anyway.

I think a lot of us likely filled the gap between the kilt order and arrival by buying accessories.
If you know what the tartan looks like, try and ask wahat colour hose to get and match all your leathers (black or brown) for the sporran, belt, shoes, etc.

What kilt did you end up going with?

I prefer brown. But that can also depend on what you want the kilt for. Daywear or evening wear. Black seems to be standard for evening wear. Brown tends to be a daywear thing....generally speaking.

Nice looking tartan. I think black may work better with the tartan (personal choice), but a darker brown (shoes, belt, sporran) may really good too. Check out the top sporran to see what I mean by darker brown http://home.c2i.net/kilted_1/public_...reelander.html

Of course you could also decide base don how you want to wear the kilt. I find that black has a bit more of a formal feel to it. That's not to say that broown can't be used, I just find the black a bit dressier even casually.
