    Barbour kilt hose (gun socks)

I have been looking for olive green kilt hose and found Barbour gun socks to be just the ticket. They are available in the US from www.bestgear.com. While not marketed as kilt hose, they are the same length and have fold down tops. Their olive tweed hose are a rather complex blend of colours. They worked out great with a Lindsay modern kilt and brown belt, sporran and shoes today. Has any one else tried these hose?

I have indeed tried Barbour socks, and many other barbour items, and I can vouch for them being top notch items. The barbour factory is just a small distance from my parents place and my childhood home.

Barbour is an expensive brand, but its target customer are farmers, game keepers, country folk in general and its made for working people. Its good quality, if nothing else.

Yikes! $35.00 just for one pair of socks.
Get yourself a pack of long Tube socks (5 pair for $6.00) and buys a Stillwater Thrifty kilt. It's still cheaper than one pair of the above.

Not to sure about the tube socks but I'm with you about the price. I could get three pair from Hamilton dry goods.

I think that $35 for hose is acceptable. That colour would go with my Maple Leaf giving me a different look than my maroon hose that I paid $15 for. I would be able to differentiate myself from my brother ML wearing McMurdo.

Barbour also has wool garter ties for $29. I prefer the simplicity of velcro/flashes myself, but for those of you who are interested...

You live...that close...to the Barbour factory?

I'll second everything you said about Barbour products. My Barbour wax jacket is the best jacket I have ever owned, bar none.

Barbour may be expensive, but their items will last for a lifetime -- and that is the true definition of frugal; buy the best so you won't have to keep replacing the shoddy stuff!

$35 for a pair of socks is very reasonable, and Barbour is good quality -- why on earth would anyone compare this to...shudder...tube socks?
