    Cheap kilt jackets

I cant find the thread, I think Arrogcow started a few weeks ago. Anyway, on the subject of inexpensive kilt jacket for a dressy but casual environment, Sportkilt is planning on making an entry.

I was talking to one of their guys today at the LA Irish Fair and asked about it, as they had a coat on one of their mannequins. They are still waiting to get some silk material for the linings, but they plan on having some low priced casual kilt cut jackets soon.
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.

That would be a welcome entry for casual dress. Was it more like a traditional jacket - cuffs or epaulets? ...or a contemporary jacket, cut short for kilt-wear?

    Yaish,

Sounds like good news. Did he say what colors would be available? Any idea what the approximate price will be?

The one I saw hanging was like a stripped down PC. Some nice diamond shaped buttons, but no piped trim or anything like that. It looked basically like a kilt-cut black suit coat, with buttons similar to a PC.

He didnt really know price yet, but he didnt correct me when I mentioned the market for something around $80.00

The cheap jacekts could've been imported from Pakistan. They are not the greatest and too formal for most occasions.

How do you know this without ever having seen them?

I was told by a vendor in Vancouver. He would not touch them. Face it, if they are really under $100us, quality can't be top notch.

We'll just have to wait and see. Since there's several of us in SoCal, it shouldn't be too hard to get an up close inspection.

There are a variety of places to buy inexpensive sport coats to wear with khakis/trousers, and, no, they aren't fit to wear to a formal event...

But..... that is the kind of kilt-cut jacket I am looking for. I want something to toss on when a nip hits the air, that would work with a buttondown shirt without a tie....

I will probably buy a $300 kilt jacket someday, but I don't have any formal functions in the near future.. And I don't see why they ALL have to cost that much or nearly that much.....

I see nothing wrong with an inexpensive kilt-cut coat - especially if I don't have to go through the hassle of having a thrift store coat altered....

    just my $0.02......
