    Chukker boot

When wearing ankle height boots, hose up or down? Or does it matter what is being worn with?

I wear my hose both ways with ankle high boots depending on the weather and the rest of my outfit. In the summer I almost always wear my hose scrunched down with boots.

    scrunched down mostly

I wear them scrunched down when they can be seen, but I wear them pulled up when wearing pants.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what "Chukker" boots are! Some time ago, here in the United Kingdom, Chukka boots were quite popular and were worn with trousers, and they might still be, but I've not seen them for years.

My general rule (yes, I know there are no rules!) is Shoes: hose worn up and Boots: hose worn down. For me it is the visual appearance that matters here and, to my mind (and eye) hose worn down with shoes looks dreadful, and hose worn up with boots only slightly better.

As always, it is entirely up to the individual - and I stick to the above, every time!

    Take care,
    Ham.

I wear them both ways, depending on the boot and the rest of the outfit. Here's a pic of hose folded down with work boots and a Utilikilt. Sorry about the quality, it's the only one I can find on short notice.

I wear them both ways. In colder weather (or in the heavy fog we have here on the coast) I wear them up. In the warmer months I push them down.

I've always worn my socks or hose up. Kilted or not, military or civilian. But that's preference. I think both ways look good, I just don't the feeling of bulk on my ankles.

The more post I read from GB, the more I seem to agree with him. I also like to wear my hose, or socks up. I like to go hiking, fishing, etc. and having the hose up offers a little more protection from the thistles and briars along the path.

Personal preference, just as Hamish said, there are no rules!

I see nothing wrong with wearing chukka boots with the hose "up", as Maclean of Torloisk is doing in this photo:
