Cuarans (traditional gillies)
Does anyone know were to find someone who makes the old style cuarans (rivelins, pampooties, etc.)? I have tried to make some myself and frankly it is no picnic.

If you're willing to spring for the $$$, these are the closest looking "production" mocs available for replicating cuarans:

Otherwise, your best bet is to put together a center-seam moccasin kit, and cut off the side flaps:

As I've oft-maintained in other threads, those "ghillie brogue" patterns, with the mulitple tabs, are simply not correct for the Jacobite period or earlier....

Sionnachdubh,
Are you referring to something like these? I made these myself and have a pattern on file. Very simple to sew. Essentially the above moccasins sans flaps.

As an example of an inappropriate multiple-tab brogue, you mean like Medieval Moccasins?

Exactly! I think they're all based upon modern dancing "ghillie" shoes....

Yep. I pondered the Arrow mocs for a bit and ordered a pair.

The Arrow mocs arrived yesterday, but the thong is not as long as depicted in the photos. I'm calling!

Also wondering about the Arrow widths. There was no provision on their order page for the width of one's foot....always an alarm bell for me.
