Custom Leather Sporran Strap

It's nice to hear of others having a go.

When we make straps We use an adjustable strap cutter they aren't that expensive the one we use is American.
To finish the edge the simplest way is to soak a cloth in some hot water (Hottest you can hold)holding the strap tightly draw it though the cloth several times. It gives a good polished finish to the edge. We don't use dyes on the edges.

Hey! that's a great tip Freelander. I like it when you can get great results without fancy tools. Can you tell me which strap cutter you use?

Phil, a weave strap was my initial plan but opted for the simpler plan strap. WHEN you get it done post the pics. I'd like to see how you resolved the issues.

Here is the strap cutter I use, it is from Tandy Leather:

Works great at cutting all different weights of leather. Can easily adjust to cut 1/8" to 4" strips. Handy cross bars add support. Includes two blades. (Additional replacement blades #308100.)

Both Tandy and The Leather Factory also sells an all metal strap cutter of the same design for $79.99.

Thaks Doc, I've been searching ebay for Leather Tools. There are quite a few nice sets out there but they are in demand. Hopefully I can pick up a good set.
