    DIY sporran straps

Both of my sporrans came with chains, so I decided it was time to make some straps. Here's what I did.

    1. I bought a nice, very simple, plain thin black belt at the Spring Faire. This is a vendors show that's on campus every spring. The belt cost me $18.00, and it's first-quality, thick leather. I had the guy cut it in half and punch holes in the ends of the cut ends so that I could fold the newly-cut ends over into loops and fastern them. He gave me two sets of posts and backs to close these. Total cost, eighteen bucks.

    2. Next stop, Orchard Supply Hardware. I bought two, 3/4 inch loop (the part the leather goes through is actually rectangular) snap hooks. They're small and nickel plated so they're shiny. Those go in the loops at the newly-cut ends of the belt and hook on to the D-rings that are attached to the sporran. Cost? $1.39 each.

I also bought a shiny nickel-plated 3/4 inch D-ring to serve as a "keeper" for the "tail" of the belt after it goes through the buckle. That was 69 cents. Two minutes with some black thread and that's held in place. I now have sporran straps to die for in outrageous quality leather for about $22 and they will last forever.

    It wuz fun!
