Empire Canvas Works wool blanket shirt review & pics

A couple weeks ago I ordered a wool blanket shirt from Empire Canvas Works. Let me start by saying that customer service was absolutely top notch. I called Kevin Kinney to place my order on a Monday evening and my shirt arrived at my doorstep on Thursday afternoon. I ordered the short version, size large in burgundy. The color is a beautiful deep, dark red. My first impression of the shirt was how light it was compared to how beefy and substantial it seemed. The material is quite thick and has a relatively high pile. It's completely soft with none of the scatchy feeling wool can have. It is very well put together with good attention to detail. The large collar and antler and leather buttons give the shirt a truly unique look. It has period flair but still looks like a modern shirt. I'm glad of that because I wanted to be able to wear the shirt anywhere with anything and not look "costumey". As far as fit, it's definitely cut to accommodate layering but still feels like a shirt rather than a coat. I would compare the fit and feel to a heavy sweater. I found it to be extremely comfortable. The warmth the shirt provides outdoors was really surprising to me. I can wear it over a t-shirt with temps in the upper 30s and be comfortable. However, indoors I found it wasn't too hot. I attribute that to marvelous characteristics of wool. There is a shock cord drawstring at the waist and that proved very useful when wearing my blanket shirt with a kilt. All in all I am very pleased with my wool blanket shirt and with Empire Canvas Works. This is an attractive, heavy duty shirt that I'm sure will last a lifetime.

Thanks Jay,

It's really the USPS that does the heavy lifting.

Yup, I'm one of those that wear my kilt only a couple times a month. I'm all for a world where bifurcation and unbifurcation can live (and frolic) together in harmony.

Kevin.

Yes, but it's Empire Canvas Works that only charge five bucks for shipping and handling.

Thanks for the review. I would not have considered it without such a review.
