    Garter Snake positioning?

I recently acquired a beautiful, hand-crafted set of traditional garter ties (garter snakes), in a wonderful, earthy green/brown.

I read the very helpful tutorial http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/garter_howto.html
regarding how to tie them, but I still have a couple questions:

    1. What is the proper placement of the "tabs", once they are tied?
Centered on calf? More to the front? Or throw caution to the wind & let the chips fall where they may?

    2. Rather than the method shown in the tutorial, would it be appropriate if they were tied in a bow?

    3. What other uses, might there be, for them? They seem so eloquently simple, that there must be other ways of utilizing them.

I usually tie mine so that they are on the side of my leg if they are a wee bit close to the front then so be it.

It really depends on how the garter snake is feeling. Sometimes they want to be curled up in the undergrowth waiting for prey and other times they just want to stretch out in the sun on a warm rock after a nice meal. I don't think it is very nice to position them. Though if you had several You could spell out all sorts of intersting things in cursive writing...

    Cheers

You might be able to use them for a head band... Maybe you could rig up a bolo tie... A gofer snare maybe...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Sorry, but I would not, could not, ever DREAM of putting live snakes anywhere near the bottom of MY kilts - tied or not! Ugggggh! The only good snake surely, is a dead snake and once they're dead they make fine kilts:

The trick is to squeeze them a little before you tie them so they purge their musk and offal before you tie them on. This also makes them a little more pliable as they aren't so backed up.

    Dear Mr.Toon,
I would need to see actual pics of said ties before I could give an informed answer.
