Glengarry Hat Badge ides

My brother gave me a diced glengarry for Christmas this year. Looks a little bare without a clan badge or military emblem of some kind. Any other ideas for what works on a glengarry? Clan badges, etc are okay, just wondering if there are any other options that anyone has seen that looked good. I've thought about carving a pin, but just don't have the inspiration needed at this point. Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.

You might look around for brooch pins. They are about the right size and could be found in many different themes.

Possibly even a kilt pin could work up there given the right shape and theme. Something like this cast pewter pin

I'd stick with the clansman's badge-- anything else is apt to look like a band uniform, or worse-- a costume.

If one does not consider oneself a clansman, then of course a "clan badge" is not appropriate. Many vendors offer brooches or annulars of various designs intended mostly for plaids but, depending on one's own taste, suitable as a cap badge. Many also offer cap badges of generic (not specific clan-oriented) designs. Note that a cap badge need not be either metal or pinned on; it can, for example, be embroidered directly on the cap or on a swatch which is sewn to the cap.

If cost were no object one could easily find a jeweler, goldsmith, or silversmith who would gladly make a pin to one's own design or suggest a design. Riverkilt can probably refer you to silversmiths who have suitable pins in stock or will make them to order.

Pick a cap badge used by one of the Scottish Regiments. You can find them online or at a Highland Games/Scottish Festival. They're either copies or genuine used.

I usually wear the below, as I feel a closer tie to the Corps than I do to any clan. It's the same general size as a clan badge and is made of sterling.

There ya go, James. My boss is a Marine (I know better'n to say, 'was'). I gave him a long tie in the the U.S. Marine tartan, but instead of wearing it, he just keeps it on a shelf at work with his other Marine emblems.

My husband feels as you do, though he could wear a Kennedy clan badge. Would you share with me where you bought your USMC badge?
